Mr R and I love a good glass of Rioja and after our recent master class have gained a new appreciation of what goes into the bottle and a greater understanding of what is written on the labels.
This bottle of Beronia 2006 Rioja was like music for your mouth! It was smooth and fruity but full bodied and mysterious at the same time. This Beronia Reserva comes from the Bodegas Beronia in northern Spain, a winery founded in 1973 and awarded gold medal for Winemaker of the Year 2010 and another gold for Spanish Wine Producer 2010 at the ISWC (International Wine & Spirit Competition).
The 2006 vintage was classified as Very Good by the Rioja Council due to the excellent growing conditions leading to a healthy and full grape.
You can get aromas of soft cinnamon and spice and soft fruits dancing on your palate. This is a good wine to keep for a while but that is if you can resist it.
As with all authentic wines from the Rioja region it has its's label of DOC (Denominacion de Origen Calificada)
You can find this wine in Majestic and further information can be found from Gonzalez Byass SA.
